Penguin B Detects Missing PeopleCentum carried out flight tests of its new product LifeSeeker using Penguin B UAV platform. LifeSeeker is an innovative aerial on-board system that can detect mobile telephones belonging to missing people and report their position to search units.
The system was tested in Villanueva de Gállego Airfield (Zaragoza, Spain), flying at low altitude and line-of-sight, and validated the correct communication and control of the onboard platform. In addition, radiofrequency signals deployed on ground as radio-beacons were detected and geo-located. For more information see this link.

FAA selects K-State Salina to test certification standards for unmanned aircraft systemsUnder a memorandum of agreement signed by the university and the FAA on Aug. 29, K-State Salina will validate industry standards for small unmanned aircraft systems — systems typically weighing 55 pounds or less — set by the F38 technical committee of ASTM International. K-State Salina will use its own unmanned aircraft systems using the standards to apply for airworthiness certification. Kansas State University operates several Penguin B aircraft that fit under 55 pound requirement. Full article is available through the following link

Maritime Robotics & NTNU uses Penguin B for AMOS projectMaritime Robotics and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) operate UAV Factory’s Penguin B for AMOS project in Beyond Line-of-Sight missions. David and colleagues use UAV Factory’s Penguin B UAV to track the movement of dangerous microorganisms that surf atmospheric waves. These atmospheric waves collect, mix, and shuffle microorganisms across cities, states, and even countries. This research has deepened our understanding of the flow of life in the atmosphere, and has contributed unique tools for scientific exploration in the burgeoning field of aeroecology. Blue Bear and General Dynamics Team to Market Penguin B-based Redkite UASBlue Bear and General Dynamics UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to mutually support each other in the promotion of their respective capabilities and products and will exhibit the Redkite UAS on the General Dynamics UK stand at DSEi this week.
The Redkite is based on a proven Penguin B unmanned aircraft platform manufactured by UAV Factory Ltd. and is equipped with Blue Bear’s SNAP avionics, Autonomy software and sensors for day/night operation. Super Silent UAV MufflerAfter 7 months of the extensive development and testing, UAV Factory is glad to release the details of the low-noise muffler for the small unmanned aircraft vehicles. The Silent muffler has a non-detectability range of less than 700 meters in cruise conditions, offers up to 18% higher power output than COTS mufflers and considerably improves engine fuel consumption. The design is based on numerous simulations using advanced finite element analysis tools for internal gas flow and acoustics.

Sagetech, ING Robotic Aviation Demonstrate “Sense and Avoid”The Serenity UAV (based on UAV Factory's Penguin B) operated by ING Robotic Aviation of Ottawa, flew above the Casselman Aerodrome along with of a manned Harvard Mark IV, a fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft operated by Canada’s National Research Council. Each aircraft was equipped with a Sagetech XP transponder. During the flight test, both the manned and the unmanned aircraft broadcast their ADS-B positions using Sagetech XP transponders. “This test shows that technically, we have a transponder-based solution to support beyond-line-of-sight flight in controlled airspace,” noted Glenn. “Now that we’ve overcome the technical challenge, it allows us to address the regulatory environment to support these kinds of operations.” For a complete article please visit this link

Northwestern Michigan College Receives COA for Penguin B OperationsThe Northwestern Michigan College received their COA last fall for the Penguin B and has already conducted many successful flights. The Penguin has been integrated with a Cloud Cap Piccolo autopilot system and it has been flying spot on from the beginning. In fact, it was flying so well that a fully autonomous landing was conducted on the very first flight.
